A very good viewer of pdf documents is evince, which can also view documents in other formats. It is a GNOME application.

For presentations, pdf-presenter-console provides the pdfpc command for a two screen display, one showing the presentation and the other controlling the presentation.

Another common viewer is acroread, a freely available but closed source pdf viewer. To use it as a plugin for web browsers install acroread-plugin.
