11.1 File Recovery

The magicrescue application, from http://jbj.rapanden.dk/magicrescue/, is a useful and often successful file recovery and undelete application for GNU/Linux. It will scan a block device (like you hard drive that is formatted with an ext3 file system—but any file system is supported) for file types it knows how to recover. An external program is then called to extract the files.
