90.6 Video Extract Audio

To extract the audio track from a video file it is as easy as asking ffmpeg to convert the video into a audio file format:

ffmpeg -i myvid.mp4 myvid.mp3

The -i specifies the input file. The file name provided to the ffmpeg command is the output file and the filename extension identifies the required audio format, which can also be specified with -f. To list all formats:

ffmpeg -formats

We could use:

ffmpeg -i myvid.mp4 -f mp3 > tmp
