36.4 Viewing Images

20190429 One of the most basic tasks is to view an image. There are very many options available but the most common tools with the basic needed features for the GNOME desktop is eog (and its MATE variation eom).

The Eye of GNOME handles viewing of individual images or of folders of images. Zoom and scroll is supported for large images while keeping memory usage under control. When viewing a folder of images one image is displayed at a time. We can drag a collection of filenames into an Eye of GNOME window and eog will open each of them.
